Further musings

I thought Julian Assange was cool. Then he was accused of rape and hid in the Ecuadorean Embassy. He didn’t understand how lucky he was, pissed off his host country, and this morning I watched his arrest video. I’m not a fan of the carceral state and this situation is complex and bad, but I enjoyed that.

I don’t think he’s mentally well.  This makes me an even more terrible person than mornal, thinking this and watching the video. But I’m the kind of person who’s cool with watching Saddam’s hanging video too so you know I’m just an all around jackass.

Has anybody noticed that the incredibly competent and productive computer scientist who made the black hole photo possible looks like a high school grad? THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT and thank you Dr. Katie Bouman and the entire team who made that photo possible for all humankind.

Dear police forces across Canada, quit trying to horn in on Pride Day, it’s not your party.

We’re almost out of Vera and it’s making me sad in a tiny and totally manageable way.

Had a lot of fun yesterday playing with fx pedals for guitar but I literally missed my first bus by 20 seconds, almost got on the wrong train, went to the wrong place in Metrotown for the bus and got off the bus at the wrong stop – I was almost an hour late. Absolutely horrific getting there…..

Today, dentist appointment and Osteofit. Not going to Lunch Bunch because the minister’s going to be there. I go to lunch bunch for a free form conversation with the elders of the church, not for programmatic discussions headed up by the minister. This will stop at month’s end so I’ll go back then probably.

Peggy and Tom are hosting the next music night May 3. She says she’s gonna cook ‘hefty food’ in honour of John and that makes me so happy.

Black hole pics

I follow a rather odd Jersey non-binary person on twitter (currently living in Spain) and less than an hour after the ‘black hole sun’ picture hit the internet she’d made a meme about it and almost equally instantly it was being retweeted in other languages and I got to watch it real time this morning, most entertainingly.

Also from twitter this am:

Inuit elder saying that the big fat fluffy snow we get in spring is a blanket for the babby seals and I thought that was sweet as anything.

Many cat pictures; a filk friend has sibling cats who hug each other all day long, sometimes while staring down the camera, so that is very cute.

Some lovely words in Krautesque.

A warplane manufacture keeps advertising in my feed. I DON’T LIKE WAR Y’ALL JUST MOVIES ABOUT IT

a miss is as good as a mile

So back in 2009 they cultured Candida auris from the ear of an elderly Japanese woman.

Since then, four different infectious strains have appeared on the scopes of infectious disease control specialists, and they are all very damned hard to kill.

Almost impossible.

So you can understand that looking back on 2014, and remembering that the CPAP place gave me an unsanitized loaner, I’m figuring I dodged a bullet.

So unless you get a loaner CPAP along with a note saying that it’s been sanitized sufficiently to kill C. auris, DON’T.

Encased in dolorous sludge

Or some sudge.

I have been trying, outside of my immediate circle of friends and family, to think of anything good that is happening and it’s hard to summon the gumption to talk about it.

I’m up to date on my laundry! sigh. What? Including putting it away? Get outta town.

A couple of weeks ago I said it felt like I could somehow feel the grinding of tectonic plates as a kind of itchiness and stupor, but that’s just allergies.

About a year ago I ordered this for Mike and it finally got manufactured and arrived. I suspect he’s going to have fun with it. He’s having lots of horrible set up fun with the printer, that’s for darned sure. I want to design something for him to build but I don’t have a decent 3d modelling program

First green frog of the year

We heard peepers, Jeff and Paul and I, when we walked at Oakalla last week, but today we saw our first green frog. The bird song in the park was almost deafening in spots.

Lunch at Phở Hong, nommy lemongrass pork chomp.

It’s an absolute unit of a day here, puffy white clouds and eagles circling and the air feels like a kiss. A pollen laden kiss.

Paul and Keith are off to the Island for a Restorative Justice event on Saturday.
