Sounds like a Heinlein character a la Glory Road.
Was it in Heinlein’s Friday that he made a list of all the skills a member of homo sap should have? I remember “conning a vessel” and “changing a baby” juxtaposed…
Hmm. I thought that was Lazarus Long, but could be mistaken. An excuse to reread some Heinlein!
You may be right. And Heinlein may have said it more than once. And ANY excuse to re-read Heinlein is acceptable! I am motivated to do so at the moment by working on the inventory of John’s books (almost done) and naturally encountering a few classic Heinleins in the process. Including Glory Road!
That list is in Time Enough For Love, in one of the two Lazarus Long quote intermissions.
Friday was more about lists of nice things to have for breakfast.
