Gas. Toys.

I just bought a Korg Kaossilator and with Jeff’s help with cables and one little teeny piece of Garage Band preferences tweaking courtesy of the internet I got it running stuff into Garage Band.

It makes the wildest sounds.  Katie and I went nuts with it on the way back from Victoria on the ferry.

Note to self.  If you feed Katie corned beef hash, scrambled eggs, salsa, shrimp har gaw and coffee for breakfast, don’t be around her after sunset.  She would not have cleared out a courtroom; the whole building would have been shut down while grown men pleaded for mercy.  I have never experienced the like. It was actually pretty funny, once my vision cleared up and I stopped gasping.

Katie and I are off to Victoria

Back tonight.

Last night Mike came over with his Aria 12 string electric and Brian came over with his 45 year old tube amp    Which sounds amazing.  Also his Fender.  We three have never played together before, and man, what took us so long????  Also we ate much food and I picked up a Coop Car so I can reduce transportation craziness on the other side.

I wanted to take Margot but decided against it.

Hope you all have a lovely day!

Music night

Me and Tom and Peggy and Cindy sang and played after the Lunders provided an amazing meal (braised pork chops and many vegetables and garlic cheese bread) and I got to perform my two new tunes, which is always loads of fun.

I made it through both of them without forgetting anything.  As far as I can tell everybody liked them. I love the feeling I have when I’ve written something new.  I’m all shivery with excitement and can’t wait until Jeff’s at work and I can pace up and down the house with the guitar hung around my neck, singing very loud.

Earlier in the day Keith and I hung out with Mike, and that was fun too.  The rest of the day I practiced my two new songs and wrote more lyrics and made sure everything was written down, lyric wise.

Update… re Redskins

I am writing in response to your email to the Redskins concerning the

recent stories in the Washington Post.  The Post’s reporting has been
significantly one-sided, incomplete, and inaccurate.  I would be happy
to discuss the issues in these stories with you any time if you would
like to call me.  I don’t have your number, but my office number is
below.

I’m going to put together a list of questions after I talk to Jeff and Loki.  I want to call this guy.

I love it when men send me flowers 😉

I finished Beloved Coworker – I am Very Happy with the way it turned out.

Keith is here and we’re going to go to the puddle later.

Jeff finished my taxes (I only gave him the last of the missing paperwork this past week) and according to the numbers they owe me money.  This also means, that Katie can get HER taxes in and thus get about 800 dollars back.  w00t, as they say.

Okay, back to the homily.  I will kick ass, in a respectful way, if the universe hangs that way.

Yet more Homicide

What a frikkin amazing show that was.  The approach to racial issues – the ongoing heffalump in the parlor in North America – and sexism, and the whole personal life coming to work issue – all of these things are handled in a manner which marries the visceral and the cerebral in a perfect cassoulet.  I looked up Yaphet Kotto on wikipedia.  Do likewise, if you want to read one of the strangest bios in the history of entertainment.  Did you know that it is possible that he is the illegitimate descendent of Queen Victoria? and he’s Jewish??? He doesn’t LOOK Jewish.  Homicide has also had me looking up Baltimore.  Baltimore is the same size as the GVRD.  And what can you say about a show that has John Waters poking his head in as a guest star every couple of seasons?  Le sigh.

And I don’t get tired of looking at Andre Braugher, who is like a force of nature.  Keith says he’s the adorable bastard of the show, like Lymond.  (Me so happy Keith read Lymond.)

Paul and Keith were here for dinner last night.  My invention – and my energy level – failed me, so we picked up a chicken and salad.

Absolutely nothing done on the songs, but I wrote some more on Graceful Chaos, a new sf short.  Keith likes what he sees so far.

Food and Music

Tom and Peggy and Paul and Keith came over last night for supper.  Supper consisted of meat loaf, mashed potatoes, salad provided by Peggy, pie provided by Paul (nearly typed pee, hilariously enough).  Then, singing.  I love Columbus Stockyard Blues.  Then, Jeff and I and Keith watched a Homicide episode, and then it was midnight, because Jeff and I found a documentary about Pete Seeger on the tube.  It’s really good, highly recommended.  Jeff and I both exclaimed at the same time when footage we watched when we were kids, when our parents set up movies on 8 and 16 millimeter in the basement, came on the screen.  (Tzena Tzena Tzena).

When we were kids, the folks would have movie nights, and we watched:

Charlie Chaplin

Cartoons

Abbott and Costello Meet The Wolfman

Laurel and Hardy

Keystone Cops

Second World War footage

The sound of the film running through the projector and the hum of it as it ran is permanently etched in my brain.
