I’ve seen herons eat frogs, fish and slugs. I have never seen the like of this.

There is a curious sense of “not-rightness” about this which gave me pause for reflection. It’s like the recent discovery that bonobos DO hunt – it’s not just their chimpanzee kin. We have these images of our fellow-creatures which we don’t like to see altered. Image of herons – they eat fish and amphibians, not mammals… perhaps they are opportunists in their diet. Nevertheless it must be unusual for it not to have been reported before…
