Is this who your parents named you after? You are the only Allegra I have ever met although your name showed up as characters in a couple of movies lately AND there is an Allegra Printing on Carling Avenue.
She is one of the people we named Allegra after; the other two were the daughters of poets: George Lord Byron’s illegitimate daughter, and Longfellow’s, in his poem The Children’s Hour
From my study I see in the lamplight,
Descending the broad hall stair,
Grave Alice, and laughing Allegra,
And Edith with golden hair.
The burdens we lay on our children, naming them!
Allegra is an individual and she has the name of an individual. Growing up it was Debbie, Brenda, etc. When my daughter was in public school it was Megan and Jennifer. Jenn enroled in a SAT course at Algonquin and there were 3 Jennifer’s with the same last name as my Jenn AND none of them were related to her that we know of.
I met a man who has 2 daughters named Jenn about the same age as yours, Debbie. Had one himself and then married a woman with one too.
A home where numbering children has resonance…
Interesting how they sorted that out in their daily lives, Chipper. My brother divorced and married a woman named Alison and my neice’s name is also Alison. In the beginning it was very confusing and I started calling them Big Alison and Little Alison, BUT knew I had to quickly figure out a way around this.
