This should surely give pause to the fundamentalist biblical inerrancy crowd.
Interesting, I’m familiar with the holy wars through books like “The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail”, the bible, masonry, etc., but never once did it occur to me how many people were killed by Satan (as stated in the bible). I have in my mind, a few men who do terrible, evil things in the name of God — this really makes me mad.
Debbie, an explanation for why people do terrible things in the name of whatever their god may be, and have done so through the age, can be found in an understanding of the way we evolved. Of course, you have to be an evolutionist rather than a young-earth creationist to appreciate the logic of this extended argument – so – not knowing – I had better not go there.
Can’t we all just be Pastafarians?
Nautilus3, you don’t have to worry about offending my sensibilities “Explaining why people do terrible things …”. I have heard of Abraham’s personal God. It’s obvious evolution takes place — whether by God’s design or Nature. Something sparked life in the primoral muck and science will eventually have the means to explain how, maybe even reproduce it — I don’t really care who gets the credit.
