  1. It might be true. Researchers in – Algonquin Park, I think it was – hypothesized that it was the antlers of other moose which registered in a moose brain. They made a set of plywood antlers of appropriate size and robustness (extra points if you get the reference) and set out to see if their hypothesis was correct. They filmed what happened. First they used a moose call and when a bull approached, one of them donned the fake antlers above her head. The bull exhibited pre-conflict behaviour. Then she removed the antlers and hid them behind her. With his opponent essentially disappearing, the bull decided he was hallucinating and wandered away. This happened repeatedly. So – if you encounter a moose in mating season, DO NOT make like another bull moose as to horns. The rest doesn’t seem to matter. The Norwegian kid in playing dead would have disappeared as far as the moose was concerned. Wonder if his sister was wearing horns…
