Several decades ago Loki and I got tickets to a musical revue on Shaftsbury Avenue, music by Stephen Sondheim. We hadn’t ever years of him but it was music so we went. We have followed his career since. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Side_By_Side_By_Sondheim
It was a primer of his work up to that point. Nothing to it, seemingly, as a production, just three people chatting and singing his music. The man is a marvel, and Paul Simon’s piece perceptive and enlightening.
