They have all the charm the imported tree rats don’t have. I have never seen one here. They were evicted by the influx of eastern grey squirrels, and not that long ago – less than fifty years. Article in the paper the other day had a camp counselor catching, cooking and eating one of the grey squirrels. One of the kids complained and the parents got up in arms. It would be interesting to follow the lives of those kids to see if any of them had their lives saved by that memory when lost in the wilderness, always supposing, of course, that there IS any wilderness a few decades from now.
