Still alive

Yet more people have found out about my planned departure and it’s as if it’s the ‘end of an error’ is making people really freeked out.  I don’t want to freak people out. I just want my life back.  Yes, I know it looks like I have a life from my blog, I’m forever doing exciting or at least utterly bizarre things, meeting strange life forms and having thinky-thotz, but I’d like a more interesting life still, and I want to be able to say I did something besides work.  Like create.

At the end of the year, I’ll either be making enough money from projects to kiss working goodbye, or I’ll go back to paid employment with a song on my lips.  Or Jeff and I will run away to Thailand.  (No, we haven’t even discussed that, but it would be funny). Or I will be world famous as the assistant to Miss Margot, the world’s most amazing clown cat.

Spent the night at Mike’s.  I just love the fact that he’s got a heavy bag in the massage room.  And that he has a massage room.  He gave me a bunch of pictures, including the one I want on my order of service for my funeral.  Yes, I previously posted it on this site… it’s in the archives, from when we went to Hot Springs. I’ll post it again at some point.

I’m going to Hot Springs. In fact, I should start figuring out exactly what I’m going to be doing and when for the first two weeks so I get into a routine.

The big ones.  There are actually more, but they are kinda small projects.  These are bigggg ones.

  1. I won’t worry about losing weight, that’s a sucker’s bet for my genotype.  I will work on getting fitter and dropping my cholesterol, the only icky thing about my last round of bloodwork.  Yoga, walking, bicycling, swimming, canoeing, and iceskating.
  2. All my songs written down. I KEEP FINDING MORE. I am continually staggered by how much music I’ve composed over my life. I could literally do it all day, every day.  Maybe I will.
  3. All my songs recorded, even if it’s just mp3.  Lyrics and chord charts, per Lady Miss B’s site.
  4. Atheist liturgy (??!)  Yes.  I plan to do a 52 week liturgy for atheists.
  5. A year’s worth of Unitarian Sermons, including at least a half a dozen which come from the ‘dark Unitarianism’ I used to talk to John and Tom about.  I already have a good start, you may notice.
  6. All my decent poetry scanned and posted here.  The juvenilia, not so much.
  7. I wrote some fabulous erotica, back when.  I mean to publish at least some of it.
  8. Commercializing K-side. (A program Jeff wrote to my specs).
  9. Youtube videos!!!!
  10. Possibly commercializing biscotti production.  Everybody says they are the best biscotti evar.  Why not?
  11. Possibly commercializing my cinnamon buns, which may not be the best but are damned good.
  12. I’m going to sing and play live in front of an audience about 10 times more than I do now.
  13. I’m going to take an inventory of every possession I have and if it doesn’t serve me I am going to get rid of it.  My life doesn’t allow me to do that prior to the move, but that’s the plan.
  14. The Zombie Movie !!!!  more research is required. Jeff will be my muse.
  15. Final draft and publication of my sf story about the wholly owned planet.
  16. Possibly a script about a male serial killer and a female serial killer chasing each other around a warehouse in the King St district in Toronto.  I’ve had the idea for years and I should do something…
  17. The Midnight Moving company script.
  18. Rock ‘n’ Roll Factory script.
  19. Finishing that ‘instant family’ Harlequin Romance mOm and Katie have been chaffing me about for years.  It’s almost finished, I just need one last screwup before the lovers reconcile…
  20. Katie says I should fly to Bruges and eat chocolate and drink beer for a week.
  21. The ‘LOVE’ musical.  I am going to do a LOT of research at Gadget House (Loki and nautilus3’s hangout).  Singable songs about love from a 21st century point of view.
  22. Learning to shoot guns and get me licence!  About time.  There was a reason I didn’t want it earlier.
  23. Learning more permaculture stuff.  Maybe go to the Farm in Tennessee.  Paul wants to do that too, maybe go with him.
  24. Travelling to see friends and loved ones… but not too much.  Worldcon in August and Ottawa, Cornwall and Toronto later that month… maybe.  Or I’ll wait til the fall when the weather is better.
  25. Bluegrass camp!!!
  26. Learning as MANY of John’s songs as I can, so I can represent him for people who never got the chance to meet him.
  27. Quit drinking so much beer.  Not stop, that would be foolishness, but just slow down.

and there’s more, but don’t you think that’s TEN years of work, not one?

  1. Yes. At least ten. But creative ambition is GOOD. Think about coding each one as to priority, and time required, and to what extent it can weave in with other projects. A too-massive list can be daunting, leading to paralysis…I’ve been there.

  2. That sounds like a jolly adventure!

But BRUGES? Blech! They still have open sewers in the town square. It’s difficult to enjoy your frites & bier to their fullest when EVERYTHING SMELLS LIKE SEWAGE. Also the only time I’ve been there the whole family got warts from the nasty orange shag carpet in our motel room. I was wholly unimpressed with the Bruges experience.

Brussels was delicious from top to tail, though. An excellent place to combat the healthful effects of yoga, walking, bicycling, swimming, canoeing, and iceskating.

As compensation for working a lot of weekends, I have every Monday, and many Tuesdays and Thursdays off work. I find it can be a little isolating being free, free, free while the rest of the world is busy doing their 9-5 M-F. If you find the same is true for you, call me up. I am always game for scrabble, beer, playing music, lunch, lying around on the beach, reading a book in the same room and ignoring you, whatever.
