Looking around at the world

The perfect library job for somebody…. Archivist for the Grateful Dead.

Too long, didn’t read.

Mike dropped by briefly last night and then it was back to his place to finish watching the sunset and swap body work.  I fixed him up some cheezy meetlofe by way of a snack.  (Jeff’s been working through the beef stew I made on the weekend).  You have no idea how badly I needed body work.  When he started working on my hands I remember moaning gently.  I was really messed up.  Mike’s back is all screwed up from being back at work (standing and walking all day on terrazzo floors) so I spent a lot of time working on that.

Just as we were leaving to go to his place there was a rainbow showing at the front of Geekhaus.  The rainbow ended at Suzanne’s house (yes, I know they don’t touch the ground).  Mike said, “Remind me again…. I have friends, food, work, a warm bed, people who love me….”  And I said, “You have people who love you.”  I’m glad he asked me.  People wander around needing to hear that they are loved and that they are important, and when they don’t it’s hard on them.  Living at his folks’ place to look after the pets while they are out of town is sub-optimal for his mental health.  (Unfortunately obligatory… both of the pets were his at one point.) Then after a brief stop at Langley Farm market, the bodywork.  I find it amusing that we have identical massage tables (they were on special when he was working at the East Van store).  He fired up a ceramic heater which makes a huge difference to the comfort level.

I asked him how things are going with that gorgeous creature he’s dating.  He said, “Really well, despite my best efforts.”  You would have to know Mike to understand how bleakly funny this was.  Introspection looks better on some people than others. (Yes, and fortunately his gf is not the kind of person who’s going to even quirk an eyebrow over the two of us trading massages.  There are definite advantages to having ‘old friend from the dawn of time’ status. O, how well I slept last night… after a massage and a phone call with this New and Interesting Man.  I already have a nickname picked out, but I’ll gestate it a while longer.)

Then back home to talk to Anne about the canvass for church.  I am not pledging as much this year as last year, but such is life.  Last year I hardly went near church except to speak, and now I’ll probably be going every week unless I’m ill or travelling.  Anne left straight from my place to go to Fin Donnelly‘s victory party.  I note from the article that the Liberals are getting shanked and tossed in alleys, electorally.

I am slowly coming down with Jeff’s cold.  He’s home from work again today, poor lad, but I must say I’m happy I can borrow the MR2 now; it makes running out for cold remedies and looking in on Kira ever so much easier when the weather is this gross.  I’ve only stalled it twice, neither time in traffic.

I’ve got some bread soaking in french toast batter; around 8 o’clock I’m going to fry it up for me and Jeff.  Today is going to be a good day, I can feel it.  Perhaps being able to still feel the benefit of the massage 12 hours later has something to do with that.  I have things to look forward to!  A fundraising dinner on the 14th, which I will be skating out on early so I can have a date.  My birthday, and Katie’s, next week.  Yes, there will be drinks at Drink soon.  They are even going to give her a cake, can you credit it?  And a visit up the Island!  Don’t know exactly when that is going to happen, but Paul and I are trying to tee something up, as we have hordes of rellies on both sides of the family that we are longing to see.  Love each other while you can, show it as best you can.
