another beautiful day at the Foreshore

I SAW A NEW MAMMAL YESTERDAY

Yes, it’s worth yelling about.

And now I want to rant for such a long time, but I won’t. It has a white guy’s name.

I saw a townsend’s vole. And you know what else!? I saw it for perhaps 1.5 seconds as it ran from the water’s edge to the cover of the rushes and IDENTIFIED IT AS A VOLE RIGHT AWAY. No hesitation. Just THAT’S A VOLE at the top of my lungs. Despite the fact it was about twice as big as any I’ve ever seen in life…

Do you know how often I get to see a new mammal? Last time was the bobcat and that was the November before the November before the pandemic.

The critter was EXACTLY as I remembered it when I looked it up less than two hours later. Only difference was it had been tooling around in grey green mud so he was a little closer to the grey green end of the spectrum, not a wholesome plump brown like the illos.

No masks. Paul still wanders WAY TOO CLOSE to people, that man’s going to get himself a faceful of virus one of these days. I try to keep 6 feet, outdoors or no.

Also yesterday I made Paul sit through all the work I’ve done to get a bird list with calls together for us for when we go through Deer Lake Park. We ate Mike M’s chowder, which he dropped off Sunday night and how good it was to see him.

Continued writing, about 500 words yesterday and the same this morning so far.

Buried in ants in the kitchen. Something must be done.

I got a personal response from Karl Penner

Hi Allegra

Thanks for the kind words and support.  There have been hundreds of them today, and I can barely keep up.  I am grateful.

In terms of a donation to my church, don’t worry it. We’re good.

Rather, pick your favourite charity and send the money there.  I’m sure they need it more than we do.

Thanks,

Kyle

Kyle is a pastor with Grace Mennonite in Steinbach and he participated in an advertisement to encourage people to be vaccinated. He’s gotten a lot of shit for it so I wrote his church to show support.

Yeah, I know, no gods no masters but is that personal or prescriptive? At the heart of that is my approach to anarchism.

also: my https://johnniejae.store/listing/likunklo?product=369&variation=6520&size=1906 tshirt arrived today so I’ll wear that for canada day and it’s got a hummingbird on it

Tragedy in London

As far as I can tell I’m not reacting nearly as hard to the shot as I did the last time. There’s a hot raised spot on my arm but nothing like the last time.

I’m just so happy to be fully vaccinated. I CAN’T HURT SOMEONE UNINTENTIONALLY now. I can be disgusting and homicidal some other way I guess.

I have a new favourite dessert: cold home made rice pudding, done Jeff style (he prefers it more gooey than I do), with mascarpone layered on top and then home made chocolate sauce dribbled on top. I invented it last night and then promptly got up and ate another dish of it. LOL.  Possibly I should run the dishwasher now before everything gets too crusty.

The Muslim family killed by a 20 year old driver in London ONT …. I have few words.

Struck down FOR WHAT REASON? Other than bigotry and hatred and ignorance.

good news

I’m eligible for my second vax as of Monday

MORE GOOD NEWS

Paul has had his second jab! he did what he said he was going to do which was go to the vaccination centre at the end of the day and ask if they had any jabs left over. So he’s fully vaccinated!!! yay modern medicine.

What do you call feeling wiped out after your vaxx PFIZERS ON STUN lol

AND

I made mac and cheese and Katie came by for a brief visit and I gave her some to take home. SHE ATE IT mOm SHE ATE IT.

Also she’s walking okay, and she took time off, and it’s just one of those things and we should all be glad she was wearing her Dickie’s!! (Heavy work jeans).

Allergies

I’m getting hives, probably from the brazil nuts, heavy sigh.

Just ordered doubles and Chicken Roti and Shrimp with Rice from D Roti Shak.

SO DAMNED GOOD

Here’s a funny pic, courtesy of Liz M. shows two old people in a really old car in front of a building called St. Luke’s with a JUST VACCINATED sign like a just married sign.

here’s another funny one, it spells ACAB in cherry blossoms and is apparently from this week in Portland

t’aint funny M’Gee

on the subject of white guys who don’t know when the fuck to shut up, imagine being Jordan Peterson getting this review for his latest JUST OUTTA REHAB special.

While 12 Rules for Life was a snapshot of an intellectual moment, however paltry, Beyond Order is the literary equivalent of colonoscopy by cake shovel, writes Richard Poplak.

Bitter and twisted

Huge construction fire in Langley, burned all through the night. Set fire to the building next door, 100 people had to flee their homes. Ten bucks says it’s arson, and I think fire raising is a bad bad thing.

Trudeau using a SUNDAY PRESS CONFERENCE to roast the living fuck out of Doug Ford who’s too busy drinking in Muskoka (which he’s not supposed to be driving to???)? Bring it on. Doug Ford is trying to kill people and doing a great job. Hope Ontarians finally vote him out.

CURVE IS finally coming down in BC. Took long enough. Still had 1000 new infections reported today.

Jeff is really feeling the vaccination, much as I did in the first couple of days.

the violence

As much as I’d like to mourn the shooting victims in the US, I am much more concerned this morning about the absolute shambolic BC Public Health response. It’s as if, having fucked things up previously they no longer even have to make an effort to make sense or improve things. I am not disappointed, I am boiling over mad.

and from Toronto!:

As for the violence in various US cities, the violence of the oppressed cannot be compared to the violence of the oppressors. The fucking cops are taking money to hurt people, they’re professional torturers at this point.

Weather continues glorious.

I am still at a very low ebb, but my mood was improved greatly yesterday by a trip to the Glenburne dairy for an old fashioned malted milk. (I waited in the car). Jeff then took my advice to take the Gaglardi way home instead of straight back down Gilmore, and we hit all the lights on the way home, which given that it was rush hour, was kind of spectacular (I’ve grown facial hair, waiting for the light at Gaglardi and Lougheed). I saved the whipped cream off the top of it so I may have some coffee – the last of it as far as I can tell, since I gave the rest to the kids – later on today.

My mood is not improved by the constant smell of dead animal all over the house. I may flee the scene just to get away from it.

Upsun note: Slider and Gwenny are talking about what it takes to register a domestic partnership in MST country LOL.

Dennis Probst memorial service today. He was a blessing, the old dandelion-head. CT Scan tomorrow (if it isn’t cancelled, we’ll see). Ultrasound next month. Booster shot in August.

I made flower buns yesterday. Gotta do something with the chicken today.

az vax now available for me and Jeff

The question is do I want it, given that the most effective way to take it is 12 to 24 weeks apart!? This is the question facing Tammy too, and I guess the answer is yes.
