Norman Spinrad is dying
His short story collection, The Last Hurrah of the Golden Horde, was oneof my all time faves when I was a teenager.
A month before I was born, Edward R Murrow made this speech
Jericho etc.
Ballyhooley was amazing, as always; opening on the open stage was Hearing Voices, a wonderful all female folk quartet (with yet another cajon in tow, see one and then you start seeing them everywhere). Paul played for the very firstest time at Jericho. The ride in was memorable for Paul opining darkly on every little noise and clunk out of the car. My parade was somewhat dampened, but what the hey. I sang the Housewife’s Lament and backup for Willie’s Diamond Joe.
Ack. So do not want to take car in, but it IS running on five cylinders.
Well, THAT’S a relief
Israelis invent sarcasm detection device. (And nobody made sarcastic remarks about THAT!) Bonus: Sheldon Cooper Reference.

Strange morning
I woke up with an invention in my head. I don’t think it’s patentable, but I could build a prototype in about 15 minutes if I had the materials, and I’m trying to work out the final proportions to see if it would be useful to more people than just me. This is my second invention. The first was a zero gravity bed which would um, meet the safety and utility and mass requirements of such an object. Needless to say, when they start making porn in space, I’m expecting to get a path beaten to my door.
Sad news from the filk community; a woman expecting twins lost her little girl, after a truncated pregnancy. I wish to hug my children even tighter.
Katie has an appointment, fingers crossed.
Keith introduced his new female friend to Paul last night, and Paul was giddy on the phone with it. Big thumbs up. This is comforting to me; Paul in many ways is a shrewder judge of character than I.
Orphan sloth sanctuary. Prepare for pancreatic implosion. Thanks Patricia!
And what’s this about bishops not reporting to the Vatican? uh…..

Lovely weekend
Apart from not mowing the lawn, and not doing a stitch of laundry, I had an awesome weekend. There was singing and churching and lazing about, family meals and long conversations. Verra nice!
Sundry and various
First, a cake that looks like an octopus.
Impressive, eh wot? Continue reading Sundry and various
Ziva’s running fine
I paid the garage the last $70 I owed them this morning, and enjoyed a lovely run to work with the second Gorillaz album just a-blastin’. Happy sigh.
Board meeting was very nice, I got my new red badge of office and learned with love and thanks that somebody has stepped up to be Treasurer. Phew. Thanks Kathleen! Now I have a ton of stuff to read.
Extending two middle fingers skyward
I ignored the fracking check engine light, which obliged me by going out and staying out, and conveyed Katie and myself to Mike’s folks’ house, and then to tried to get some gelato on the drive. That didn’t work out, so we went to the place at Glen and Venables instead, and then home, after a run for some much needed toilet paper and sixty bucks of gas. Shower now, and then work. After work, church Board meeting.
Heavy sigh.
Check engine light came on in the driveway … again. Went off when I turned it off and re-lit. Other than that, it appears to be running great.
