Cleaning specialist day
Today, my room. This is big and emotional and horrific as an ADD sufferer but you know what, Suzanne doesn’t judge. I also have a Christmas Prezzy for her. And the toilet is out of the downstairs bathroom so she doesn’t have to do that room today.
Jeff says if it improves my mental health he’s all in favour of paying Suzanne to help me with it, once again confirming that he is a Very Good Person.
I’m not a hundred percent sure if the grisly business amidships is Metformin induced or I have a gut bug, but I am not leaving the house today.
Quick break while I empty dishwasher and swap laundry over…
Brekky was an almost salt free affair: steamed asparagus smothered in scrambled eggs, with a side of golden kiwi fruit and a reduced-salt fresh baked home made whole wheat bun. The asparagus was kinda off-flavoured but still edible and I *nailed* the scrambled eggs, perfect really.
850 words on the BC flooding fanfic – it’s really coming together nicely, and I walked back a scene that wasn’t working, so go me. THEY’RE ALONE IN A CAMPER VAN and the trope continues AND THERE WAS ONLY ONE BED. Didn’t think this through, did ya fellas.
I put in all the family names as prompts for the AI art thing and look what it made…. I mean it should be an UPSUN cover or something it’s so magnifisumpin.
800 words on ‘landslide’
Walked at Lougheed Mall with Paul yesterday; he got some bread and veg and I got Purdy’s Dark Chocolate Sweet Georgia Browns because I have no chill. After I drove him back here for Lentil Soup and Shirazi salad which he devoured with thanks.
He and I had a guilty laugh about the downstairs toilet; the downstairs toilet is the way it is because MORE THAN 20 YEARS AGO my Unca Dave told Paul that the only way to put in a downstairs toilet for John’s apartment when he moved in with us back in 1997 was a hell of a kludge which would come back to bite somebody later AND THAT SOMEBODY TURNS OUT TO BE JEFF. I mean seriously who the hell could have seen that bit of family history ABOUT A TOILET happening, it’s like a monty python sketch.
Jeff in turn asked me yesterday if I was okay with him continuing to ponder the reseating of the downstairs toilet (because we’re down to one toilet as a fam) and I said ARE YOU KIDDING it’s work I don’t have to do and I am not inconvenienced in the slightest just in case you wanted further evidence about what an amazing roommate he is, also the landlady should buss his cheeks and praise his name the next time she sees him (pLEASE nO says Jeff)
Worked on a couple of fanfics; overnight there were three ‘kudos’ in my inbox. People are still reading my fanfic and enjoying it, so that’s nice.
At some point I hope to make some biscotti happen for Peggy. I toasted the almonds but they’re kind of suboptimal; I’m having to go through them and give the wrinkled dry yucky ones to the crows.
Juncos and chipping sparrows are coming for the sunflower seeds now. They come at a different time of day than the crows. There were five crows yesterday, making a tremendous racket; they hardly moved when I opened the door.
My BP is still too high. I have to completely stop eating salt and I sure don’t want to.
saw the doc
I will be doubling the new BP medication. I have a new scrip to pick up. My BP is still too high but all my bloodwork including my sugars looked good and there’s nothing weird going on with my kidneys. I try to follow the rule Dark Poo Pale Pee but your mileage may vary.
There’s a new on line art AI, you type in prompts and it gives you art. cool hunh?
that’s bigoted speech
LOL someone said something enbyphobic and (essentially) transphobic at lunch yesterday. I said, as loudly as polite, “That’s bigoted speech,” but no one heard me. At least I didn’t say nothing. I won’t repeat what she said but it’s the standard VARIANT on ‘please make up your mind about your pronouns’ and when I think how hard I’ve mentally fought to have a genuinely gender fluid character in my stories without all my icky cis assumptions on them maybe I should have been more gritty… but what good would it do? I mean when do you get a white woman to change her mind.
The meal was delightful (jerkwad comments aside) and I admired Ingrid’s amazing wine coloured hand knitted alpaca dress (she let me fondle the hem, thank goodness, because it was like an enormous red cloud of patterned softness) and listened to Jan burble (she is a burbler, and a damned good one) and do you know what, she took my sf recommendations AND SHE’S READ ALL OF MARTHA WELLS’ MURDERBOT STORIES and we all talked about how much we love the Expanse (book and show)
and instead of going to bookstores afterwards like a realio trulio Dunnetteer I headed to the weed store to buy CBD gummies, because pain management is real, you know.
I did consume one glass of Glenfiddich in Dunnett’s honour. AND I have pain behind my right eye today in consequence, it’s my standard response to alcohol consumption.
I love how the background TV was formula 1 so I got to watch Lewis Hamilton get interviewed with the sound off.
Everyone in the restaurant was an old, like me. Like, without exception. Made me wonder about the local demographics.
Took a taxi there, came home via transit, curled up, watched TV, remembered to completely dry my laundry, put the split pea soup away.
Saw one of my all time fave “Vancouver interactions” –

Yay! went for a walk in the Byrne creek parks yesterday with Mike.
Boo! nearly passed out from the effort of staggering up the hill back to his place.
Nets out as: No benches or places to sit, no walkies; do not leave house without cane. (I can’t FIND the one Mike bought me and I bought a new folding one.) I told Mike that if I had known I was going to be so out of gas I would not have suggested the walk, but we GOT OUT OF HIS APARTMENT.
Yay! got to watch the weird weather from the Aerie!
Boo! the fucking elevator was crapped out when I left yesterday!
Yay! I was well enough to walk down 13 flights of stairs!
BOOO my legs shook for half a fucking hour after I got home.
YAY! JEFF filled in the edges of the jigsaw puzzle I got last week while I was away (He needed things to do while BC Hydro turned the power off.) The rest of the puzzle will be even harder now but at least I have the edge.
YAY! I have ART for struggling Great Grandparents who have insufficiency of AMONG US FAN ART DRAWN BY A SEVEN YEAR OLD in their lives and on their fridge.
I have been looking for a substitute for Red Deer Lodge in my life and I thought I might have located one. It’s about 3 hours with the ferry to get there. Then I realized they only book through Airbnb and I said fuck it, I want to stay somewhere that isn’t ruining rental housing and messing up the economy.
I have learned that early in the new year there will be a proper bus from the Carvolth Station to Chilliwack, which means I don’t need to drive to the ‘wack to see Jarmo and Susana!
I think I’ve posted this meme about reincarnation before…. in a previous life perhaps??
Here’s Tammy and her mum Janet
Veers wildly between weird, cool and impossible
This is bloody hilarious
Do you hear that, hsifyppah? A SHRUB PLAYS THE BANJO FROM THE SHADOWS.
I’m still in shock from the doctors appointment. I have DO SOMETHING and I do not wish to know these facts.
Did I mention that I’m going to sell the hang drum and that Keith has grown a full beard and he looks splendid?

as reported by CNN today
Hurricane Ida has slowed to 10 mph, remains a cat 4, and is currently putting the shove to the entire flow of the Mississippi river, which is apparently flowing backwards. Normally it’s 2 feet per second and it was temporarily at -.5. Deep sections of the river could still have been flowing normally, this all depends on where the gauges are.
The river temporarily flowed backward during Katrina. Given climate change’s known exacerbation of wind speeds and duration of storms this looks to be a harbinger of the new normal.
If my pOp wants me to buy this for him he’ll let me know.

This is a review of a book I want…. no probably need to read.
I have had a story added to a Destiel collection on AO3. I am absolutely thrilled and it means more people will read it. It’s 12500 words of fluffy and mildly porny madness that ends with an ILY scene at an airport. I also think it’s got some of the funniest dialogue of any of my stories. Email me if you want the link.
I stopped taking cough medicine at 11:30 last night to try to let it clear my system, but the crackling in my chest has come back. Low grade fever, productive cough, crashed appetite, really an effort to push fluids but I keep hearing mOm’s voice encouraging me to do that thing.
Buster scrapped with another cat THROUGH the cat door last night. I locked it and expected him to whine about it all night and he didn’t let out a peep until I woke at 8:30 this morning.
Left hand is still bruised but all the mobility is back and normal function has resumed. I am now thinking that I did crack a rib, but there would have been nothing that an ER doc could do but hand me a little envelope of T3s anyway after a chest xray in a freezing room so I really dodged 8 hours of ER time during the largest surge of infections in over a year. Knowing that Paul would have come with me is extremely comforting though. What a fine and life affirming thing it is to have friends.
Tom is closing the speaker shop (Halloween is the last day) and going on line! I may get work doing data entry loading skus. He was only in hopsital (deliberate typo) a day for the pneumonia and when I was talking to him on the phone today he was on the skytrain which means that Peggy is not actually driving him everywhere any more. Also that the phone call dropped three times before we gave up.
The only social media I’m on now is here, AO3 and Reddit. I’ve added 400 karma points in the last week alone so you can tell I’ve been busy. When Reddit gives me free awards I always use them within five minutes, usually for other women.
I can definitely state (from what I read on reddit, among other things) that feminism has lost big over the last 40 years. What a time to be alive.
ADDED LATER: SOMEBUNNY is running a jackhammer within a block radius and WOW what an annoying sound!
